Who was El Dorado?
Eldorado or “The gilded one” in spanish, was the supposed leader and chief of the Musica people,where he lead religious ceremonies to worship the gods that lived under the Lake Guatavita . During these ceremonies he would cover himself in a gold dust, get onto a raft, paddle to the middle and dive into the lake. He would do this while other people would throw gold,jewels and figurines into the lake. The legend of Eldorado has stemmed off this Musica chief and his religious ceremonies, eventually this became a majestic city of gold and jewels - located somewhere in South America.

Sir Walter Raleigh was a British explorer who was most famous for his colonization of the Roanoke Island - situated on the coast of North Carolina,America- and his expedition to find the Legendary El Dorado (the mythical city of gold).
During his stay in the New World, spanish documents and American Indian natives lead him to believe of a majestic city of gold and jewels in the heart of South America. This was the motivation for his expedition to find El Dorado a man who was believed by Sir Walter Raleigh to rule a city called Manoa, a supposed city of gold and jewels .
In 1595 Sir Walter Raleigh lead his men up the Orinoco River - in modern day Venezuela - into Spain's Colonial empire. He located gold mines but did not succeed in convincing people to support his project of colonizing the area. He was arrested and executed in 1618.

Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada
Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada was a spanish explorer and conquistador in Columbia. He was the chief officer of the Santa Marta colony on the north coast of North America (1535). He led an expedition up the Magdelana River accompanied by 900 men.
Gonzalo and his expedition team had succesfully reached the central plain of Columbia which was the land of the Muisca people. Gonzalo lead the conquest against the Muisca people and the Muisca leader fled, and the conquest was dubbed a success.
Gonzalo became obsessed with his wealth and power and ordered 500 men to search for the mythical city of
El Dorado (1569). 2 years after he ordered the search, he returned Spain with no luck of finding El Dorado and with only 25 of his 500 men remaining (1571).
Gonzalo retired in his country house La Suesca and wrote a book of his journeys. Unfortunately the book has been lost and has not yet been recovered.
